Detergent dispense broke on first useThe first time we ran it , the rectangular cap for the rinse aid compartment came off and fell to the bottom where it melted on the element. My wife called customer care with model number and they mailed us a round cap for some other dishwasher. Whirlpool doesn't sell the cap I need without my purchasing the entire detergent and rinse aid unit for $90. Very disappointed. I have previously purchased the whirlpool gold series refrigerator and oven and microwave with no problems and did not anticipate any issues with the dishwasher. If anyone with authority ( and intelligence to send me the correct replacement part) reads this please contact me.

Never AgainPurchased dishwasher on 7/4/16 for approx. $500 with a 2 year warranty. Issues started August '18, a month outside of the warranty. Called a non-Whirlpool appliance repair person who said the motor needs to be replaced. Quoted $300 to fix. This is a pretty major part to be failing at two years. He also said all of these dishwashers eventually leak- not a matter of if, just when. So, he also recommended a leak pan, which would cost another $100 total.
Finally got through to Whirlpool and they offered to pay for parts, which is about $150, but their repair person charges $115/hour. We decided to cut our losses and go with another brand. We liked the dishwasher while it worked.

Not really what we were looking forThe dishwasher itself is very nice looking with great features...which is why I bought it. But I didn't read the fine print. The cycles are just too long! The one hour cycle doesn't clean very well so I don't really like to use it. The next cycle is almost 3 hours! And then a 7 hour cycle? Really?? We put this in a lake house, so we have to plan way in advance to do our dishes so the cycle completes before we turn off the water and lock up after the weekend. And the heated dry doesn't dry much at all, so I find sour dishes if I don't unload and hand dry them right away. Hoping I win another appliance so I can replace this dishwasher!!

It gets the job done without a lot of noiseSo far I love my new Whirlpool dishwasher. I love how it looks and I love that I can hardly hear it when it's running. The dishes come out clean every time even with a family that refuses to rinse their dishes. I was worried about the silverware being in the door but I can get my wooden spoons and spatulas in just fine. If it's too big I just lay the serving utensils in the wrack with the bowls and glasses. I feel like I have more space for pots and pans because the silverware isn't there in my way. I'm glad I went with this model and love the look of the stainless steel tub. Buying this dishwasher was definitely the highlight of my summer.

First Review DeletedWhirlpool deleted my first review - I ssupect they are removing several to hide the truth of their poor products. Original Review: bought this Whirlpool Dishwasher (WDT780SAEM) from Home Depot in February 2016. The dishwasher worked for about 18 months,my previous washer (not whirlpool) laster for 12 years. This washer was a lot quieter than my previous one. Then it stopped cleaning - which quicky got worse. The dishwasher fills provides good steam but no washing...not even enough to disolve the soap. The problem is the pump/circulation motor is bad. Based on some research, this appears to be a common and known problem for Whirlpool. Needless to say I am now shopping for a new dishwasher, and it will NOT be a whirlpool brand!

Very Quiet and good interior layoutWe purchased this to replace an aging Whirlpool Gold that we had. We were looking for something quiet that was reliable and performed well.I like the stainless interior, and it is very quiet. The racks hold our large diameter dishes very well without having to lay them over like our previous model. The wash cycles are long, but that is to be expected with a modern dishwasher. We wanted a model with heated dry, which this one has, but we still deal with wet dishes on occasion. My only complaint so far is that the glide tracks on the top rack seem to flex excessively with any weight. I am afraid they will fail prematurely. Time will Tell.

Pleasantly Quiet!I purchased the Gold Series #WDT780SAEM1 with the Monochromatic Steel boasting a 48db Noise Rating. I was forced into a new dishwasher due to the "old" one quitting after 5 years. DIY install went about as good as expected, and I was forced to purchase a Universal install kit as well.(I waited to see what I had first tho and would recommend the same for all just in case) It is very quiet, and I can now watch TV in the next room or have a conversation in the kitchen without competing with it...Huge Plus! One negative so far, and not a biggie, the Stainless Steel. It shows finger prints terrible, especially compared to my old Frigidaire.

just okayWe decided to spend a little more on this dishwasher than originally planned after the salesmen assured us that this one had better drying features than the one we had planned on purchasing. It didnt. Should have saved the extra $150 and went with the cheaper model. I have to dry all of my dishes by hand once they come out--even when using the drying feature. Also in order to use the "energy efficiency mode" a single was cycle takes 3 1/2 HOURS! I don't have time for that with a large family. Bottom rack doesn't slide back in the dishwasher very easily once it'd loaded with dishes either. All in all, I wish we would have went with a different one.

Pretty good dishwasherFor the most part I am happy with this dishwasher. The dishes come out clean and and use a premium detergent. The only part I am disappointed with is the silverware holder. It is not too sturdily attached to the front of the bottom rack, and you actually grab it to pull out the bottom rack. The silverware holder has slots for table knives but unless the knives are wiped clean before placing them in the washer, they will not come clean. For example, peanut butter and other sticky sauces are still hanging on after the wash is completed. It's not the end of the world to lick the knife clean before placing it in to be washed, but sometimes I'd rather not.

Very spacious, cleans very wellI bought this dishwasher because my previous Bosch had simply worn out. The layout is very spacious and the ability to keep silverware on the door during cleaning has noticeably increased the number of dishes were can squeeze into the dishwasher. Overall, we are very pleased. The only drawback we have seen is that the dishwasher cannot seem to loosen residue left behind in glasses such as sugar from coffee or iced tea mix. Our last dishwasher could do this. This is the only reason we are giving this 4 instead of 5 stars. This is our first whirlpool, and if this one lasts like we expect, our next dishwasher will be a whirlpool too.
