Convection microwaves
Frequently asked questions
Convection microwave ovens heat up food like conventional microwaves, which cook by using electromagnetic waves, but have an extra heating element and fan so they can also bake, roast and crisp food like an oven.
Convection microwaves can roast foods like chicken, bake an angel food cake, cook green bean casserole, bake a patch of cookies or crisp and brown pizza.
While you can bake, roast and somtimes even broil in a convection microwave, like you would in an oven, convection microwave cavities tends to be smaller and can only handle small batches of food. If you plan to make larger meals or bulk batches, it's best to keep your oven around and supplement with a convection microwave.
The right convection microwave size for you depends on your cooking habits. Small microwaves (from 0.5 to 0.9 cubic feet) can accomodate single servings and tasks like reheating beverages and snacks, while standard and large microwaves (from 1.0 to about 2.2 cubic feet) can accomodate larger cookware or serving dishes.
