Extra crispy air fryer buffalo wings
1
Pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels. This is the most important step for crispiness — removing moisture from the skin helps the air fryer do its best work. In a large bowl, toss wings with olive oil.
2
In a small bowl, whisk together the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Add the seasoning mix to the wings and toss until evenly coated.
3
Preheat your Whirlpool® appliance to 400°F using air fryer mode. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each piece so hot air can circulate freely around every surface.
4
Air fry for 20–25 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until the skin is deeply golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°F. In the final few minutes, the high heat helps achieve that extra-crispy finish.
5
While the wings finish cooking, whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce in a large bowl. Remove the wings from the air fryer, add them to the bowl, and toss until thoroughly coated in the buffalo sauce.
6
Serve immediately with celery sticks and blue cheese or ranch dressing for dipping. Enjoy right away while the wings are at their crispiest — the perfect game day snack or weeknight dinner your whole crowd will love.

The two most effective steps are patting the wings completely dry before seasoning and adding a small amount of baking powder to your spice mix. These techniques help the skin crisp up in air fryer mode.
Yes, you can cook frozen wings using an air fry setting on an oven. However, they may take more time and may not get as crispy as thawed wings. Check the cooking directions on your product packaging for optimal results.
Arrange wings in a single layer with a little space between each piece so hot air can circulate freely. Depending on your appliance, this is typically 10–18 wings per batch — cooking in batches, instead of crowding them into one batch, helps ensure each wing gets evenly crispy.
A classic buffalo sauce is equal parts melted unsalted butter and your favorite hot sauce. In many grocery stores, you can also just buy the ready-to-use buffalo sauce. Toss the wings immediately after air frying and serve right away for the crispiest result.
