Do Not Buy from
DO NOT BUYI'm on my second compact machine. The first one arrived and was connected, but didn't heat the water for washing whites. A repair technician was sent out to evaluate the problem, and decided a part needed to be replaced. I waited weeks for the part to arrive, then set up another repair appointment.
The repair tech installed the new part, which didn't fix the problem. The store where I purchased the washer decided to replace the whole machine, so I set up another appointment to swap out the washer.
Seven months later, I have the same problem with the new machine.
If you're looking to spend $1200 on a washer that won't work and will turn into a giant hassle, this is the machine for you.

Not what I expected from a Whirlpool productI have had this washer about 3 weeks & finally feeling a bit better about it. Most of the problem I experienced was the result of the installation. The first time I used it I was very disappointed. It vibrated, "walked" & made a loud rattling noise. I called Whirlpool support & a service call was scheduled. It was determined the washer was not level & that the problem should be corrected. After he left I did another load of washing & it still had the rattling noise. I discovered it was coming from the washer being right up against the dryer & during the spin cycle it was vibrating against the dryer. I moved them about 2" apart & the noise stopped. I feel it till
vibrates more than I think it should. The instruction manual is not very well written.

Zero StarsBought this washer new in August 2018, stopped working in November 2018, and again in January 2019. Scheduled a service call, and the technician said there was a faulty pump, but that we had to schedule another call with Whirlpool to get the pump replaced. Wasted hours emailing and calling with Whirlpool to get the second service call scheduled to replace the pump. Technicians finally came to replace the pump, but they installed the stacked dryer incorrectly, and did not reconnect the dryer vent hoses. So now I have waited weeks to have a service call to fix my brand new washer, and now that the washer is fixed, I can't use my Whirlpool dryer because the technicians did not re-install the dryer properly.
Long story short, Whirlpool has terrible products and terrible customer service. DO NOT BUY!

manual is hard to followVacation rental owners - beware! This machine is not user friendly to strangers, ie. vacationers who are not familiar with your machine. Since it is a compact machine I would imagine it's a popular size for apartments, condos or vacation rentals. I bought it to replace my 2004 Whirlpool washer of the exact same size. I bought Whirlpool because I have a fairly new Whirlpool dryer of the same size. I actually really dislike this machine but did not want to give it 1 star. Here is what I don't like about it. The manual is poorly written. Installation instructions are poor. This machine only hooks up to a cold water hose. A hot water hose is not needed or used. The installer had never seen anything like this before and tried to tell me that I needed a "splitter" to hook up both hoses in the one receptacle on the back of the machine. I went to HD to buy a splitter and they basically did not know what I was talking about. I tried to explain my washer that I had purchased from them and again, they did not know what I meant or was talking about. I finally pulled up the washer on their computer in their store and opened up the reviews on the HD website and found that someone explained it in the reviews. There is only one hose that hooks up to cold water and the machine itself heats up the water. Since I operate a vacation condo this machine does not work well in that my water, both hot and cold is paid for in my association dues. So now I am paying higher electric bills to have the machine working harder to heat up my water. No where in the manual does it talk about the machine heating up its own water. No where in the manual does it "explain" anything regarding why only one hose is used. It has an installation diagram showing only using the cold water hose but with zero, zip, no explanation. Also there are too many programs each with a mind of their own. Each program seems to have a timer associated with it. But with some programs the timers don't work very accurately. For example I wanted to spin my items only so I put it on the spin cycle. a 15 minute timer popped up and it took 5 minutes for each minute on the timer. During the first 7 minutes (35 minutes) the cycle did not spin. The last 8 minutes of the timer actually took only 8 minutes and the machine spun the items. It's weird and quirky. There is nowhere in the manual where it talks about the timing on each of the program cycles so the fact that it took 5 minutes for each minute makes no sense with no explanation. My suggestion for Whirlpool is that you take a good look at this machine and rewrite the manual to explain things more thoroughly.

Unhappy - but not many other choices availableI purchased this unit from Lowe's in January 2018. This is not an incentivized review, like many others posted here.
Cons:
--Violent spin speed causes vibrations that can be felt in the next room. My downstairs neighbor can probably hear/feel it too. I worry that this machine won't last long due to the thrashing it's giving itself.
--Spin cycle is loud, particularly when the motor is ramping up and slowing down.
--Spin-only cycle leaves garments sopping wet, even on "Max" spin. In fact, it never seems to do anything more than a gentle turn - nothing like the Max it uses on Normal cycle.
--Timer is wildly inaccurate: The display estimated 15 minutes for a "spin only" cycle that actually took 50 minutes, and the garment is so wet I had to wring it out in the sink.
--Spin (even on Max!) still leaves garments fairly wet - they feel more wet than they did with the old Maytag compact front-loader, which this Whirlpool replaced.
--Instead of so many preprogrammed options, I would prefer a way set wash temperature and spin speed. For example, the Normal cycle uses "Max" spin speed ONLY and this can't be changed. Another example, the Quick Wash cycle will wash only with cool or cold water. The "extra rinse" option is not available on every cycle.
--The installer was confused by cold-water only connection.
--Using the control knob is not intuitive. It took me a while to figure out the 2-step process: first spin the dial so that an option lights up, and then also push the dial to select that option.
Pros:
--It's small. I live in a building with limited space and this model was one of the very few choices available that would fit.

Hot water issues and terrible customer supportI've been buying Whirlpool washers my entire life but this time may be the last. I needed a compact unit and the selection was minimal so I opted for this model. Trust all of the reviews that say the water does not heat properly because on a NORMAL cycle, it definitely does not. You can select HOT, but because the entire cycle is so short, the water does not have time to heat up. Now if you choose the HEAVY LOAD cycle, then its a 2-hour wash and the water definitely gets very HOT. But the whole design and interface just seems poor - by letting me select a NORMAL cycle with HOT water (which is all I ever needed before) and then washing my clothes in luke warm water.
I guess what really adds insult to injury, is that I've been emailing Whirlpool customer support about it and they keep telling me "Please keep in mind the hottest this temperature setting will be is no warmer than your hot water at the tap." Yet this particular model only has a single cold water feed with an internal heating mechanism. So that tells you a little about Whirlpool support.
Still thinking about returning the unit as it's not even 30 days old and I no longer feel that Whirlpool deserves my trust or my money.

Very energy efficientHaving used another front loading Whirlpool washer for over 12 years, and a top loading washer for the past few months, I'm thrilled to have this washer in my basement. It's so quiet! And I can't wait to tell everyone I know that it only uses 51 kWh per year to do 6 loads per week.
Would anyone know the average water consumption per load? In general, top loaders use about 21 gallons, and front loaders about 13. I'd like to share this info with my circles as well.

strange designThere is no hot water connection. The washer uses electricity to heat the water which is more expensive than using hot water from the hot water heater which uses natural gas. When you open the water filter to clean it water is dumped onto the floor. There is no alarm to notify you that the washing is done.Still haven't figured out where to put the non Chlorine bleach. The door only hinges on the left and can not be reversed so the door is in the way when moving washed clothes to the dryer. Guess I will have to get used to it.

I Like then Sizei installed my new washer about a month ago. i found out that it does not need a hot water supply which could save one money in plumbing set up if i have known. i guess it makes the hot water internally & saves energy. so far so good. it's a little complicated with all the many settings & choices but it's quiet & has washed everything really well so far. i do a lot of laundry so in another few months i will really have the answer.

Great WasherWe are in the process of a complete kitchen/downstairs remodeling project. We purchased this washer, and the matching venless heat pump dryer, because they will fit under the counter. The clothes come out very, very clean, and, given the high spin speed, they are close to dry after the wash cycle completes. I would recommend this to anyone, even someone not looking for a compact size washer. I am very favorably impressed so far.
