Rated 1 out of 5 by Kevigil from Nothing but issues We purchased both the stand alone freezer and refrigerator as part of a custom designed kitchen in 2013 along with 4 other whirlpool appliances. We had to replace the auto defrost part on both the freezer and the fridge within 2 years - after the warranty expired. In the past 10 months we have had to charge the fridge with gas twice and it still will not maintain a cool temperature. Now we either have to A. replace both so they match, B. have mismatched units in a custom kitchen, or C. re-configure our custom cabinets to accommodate a standard refrigerator freezer. At this point, we have spent over $700 on parts and repair costs on 5 year old appliances.

Rated 1 out of 5 by kell from Don't waste your money on this beautiful set. Our kitchen was designed around this set. Unfortunately we have had nothing but problems. Had to have the fridge repaired within the first year (luckily under warranty) and have had ongoing issues with the drain getting clogged, causing water to build up in the bottom of the fridge and run out the bottom, causing damage to our wood floors over the years. Now at just about 5 1/2 years of owning them, the fridge is dead. No longer cools, repair place said it is out of freon and it's more expensive to repair than buy a new one. Except it's been discontinued!!! The replacement model isn't the same size, so will not fit in the custom designed space in our kitchen. So unhappy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Atw206 from Wouldn’t recommend We bought the sidekick pair refrigerator and freezer 5 yrs ago. It was a custom cabinet build in with trim kit. No complaints with the freezer but the refrigerator is worthless. We have had 3 service calls, door doesn’t seal good and pops open with the slightest touch. Leaks Freon and is constantly having to be reset. Freon was added again 1 month ago. Today we moved everything to a second refrigerator in our garage. The units look good with the trim kit, but looks are deceiving. This has to be one of the worst products Whirlpool has ever made. Total cost of service, food replacement in 5 years is over $1000 dollars. Buyer beware!!!!!!

It was under warranty so Whirpool is offering to buy it back after 45 days without a refrigerator! The problem is we have the matching freezer which is still working. Can't replace just the refrigerator so Whirlpool should also buy back the freezer. I don't know if there are any other units that will fit in space that was customized to fit these units. What a piece of junk!

The refrigerator compressor went out a total of 5 times and we finally had enough and replaced it 4 years ago. Not a big deal you would think. Well, because of design changes, they no longer match. We would have to buy a replacement door to match the freezer. The door alone is nearly as much as the whole unit. The freezer has worked with no issues for 16 years. Wanted to replace both units, but I see the reviews on the new models still are having these issues. Save your money and buy a better quality set.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NancyFrustrated from DOESN'T LAST - WILL DIE AFTER A FEW YEARS Beautiful pieces. Love the concept & the look. We built our kitchen around these beauties. IF ONLY THEY WOULD LAST! Had to replace the freezer compressor after a couple of years. The fridge also broke after a few years - cheaper to replace than fix... Fast forward to now... the Freon piece was leaking. Repairman replaced with WHIRLPOOL part -- failed after 7 mnths. Whirlpool sent a replacement piece -- last 19 days!!!!! Said they would pay for labor -- only paid 1/3 of cost now repairman won't return. ONLY BUY THESE IF YOU'RE WILLING TO REPLACE EVERY COUPLE OF YEAR! Sad, because I really like them if they would only have quality craftmanship to back them up!
