Width

A line drawing of three electric cooktops with sizing indicators showing the different sizes.

24" wide or smaller electric cooktops are designed to maximize space in apartments, small homes and other compact kitchens. 30" width is standard for full-size electric cooktops and ideal for most kitchens. 36"-width electric cooktops are wider, allowing for more room with larger pots and pans.

Element Size and Wattage

A line drawing of an electric cooktop element, with different rings indicating the three element sizes.

The size of the element is measured by diameter, with larger elements providing more room for larger pots and pans. Higher watts generate more heating power for quick cooking and fast boiling.

ADA Compliant

This appliance meets the Standards for Accessible Design specified by the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide equal access to all. Among many things, ADA cooktops have controls on the front of the appliance that don't require you to reach across the cooking surface. They are designed to require no more than 5 lb of force to operate the controls and allow you to interact with the appliance using one hand without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist.

Number of Elements

A line drawing of five elements on an electric cooktop.

More elements offer greater cooking space and flexibility.

Control Type

A line drawing of a knob control compared to a tap-touch control with a hand using the on/off button.

Whirlpool® Electric Cooktops have different control types, including knobs and Tap Touch Controls. Knobs offer flexible heating controls on the front of the cooktop, while with Tap Touch Controls, clean up is easy.

FlexHeat Elements

A line drawing of a Dual Element with two different element sizes compared to a Triple Element with three different element sizes.

Get two or three elements in one with dual or triple radiant elements, which feature a 6" inner ring that’s great for smaller pots and pans and larger outer rings, 9" or 12", that make room for larger cookware.
