Rated 1 out of 5 by gel8836 I rarely write reviews but just had to on this....
I'm an extremely diligent researcher and typically make the correct purchase. I based ALOT of my decision on this purchase from consumer reports (and I no longer subscribe because I joined specifically to buy this fridge)
What a mistake. I've owned or used a fridge/freezer my entire life and never had a problem in the past with any of those products that I can recall. I bought this in Oct 2011 for a kitchen renovation.
To start, the water filter never produced water pressure at an acceptable level. When I called Whirlpool about it, they said I needed a new filter!!! I just bought a new fridge, why would I have to buy a new filter right away? It should last a few months, no?
Now for the real issues. I've already had a repairman come out twice!! This is a brand new product! The first issue was that the entire freezer crystallized and made the door hard to close because the tracks were frozen. There was a clog. A clog? What could possibly have clogged already?? Anyway, problem fixed under warranty. Although nobody covers my lost time to have this repaired....
And now for major issue number 2. About 2 weeks ago, there was a leak on my floor. It seems that the freezer is building up ice under the tray and once the ice "breaks up" a bit it leaks. Is Whirlpool going to cover installing new floors? This is supposed to be repaired later today and I was told there is a leak.
A brand new fridge/freezer rated high by CR, less than a year old and I had a leak and a clog already??? Lord knows what the future will hold huh? Needless to say, I bought another year of warranty from Whirlpool because who wouldn't. I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool product again. With so much choice and competition how dare they make such a piece of junk and how on earth is it rated so high with CR?
What a joke....DO NOT BUY THIS. I would have to assume this is Whirlpool quality across the board so I would recommend you never buy a Whirlpool product ever. Just my opinion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by meg6718 looks great but not that easy to use
We would have never known until actually using this fridge, but it's not user friendly when it comes to the freezer part. Compared to our old fridge which was a side by side, we had more room, better storage space and the food was easier to get in and out then with the freezer on the bottom. Its hard to fit boxes of anything inside and the ice holder takes up what would be a lot of usable space. Its pretty to look at but not easy to store or use for freezer stuff.
The water spout is nice to have inside the fridge, thou it stinks to have to always open the door to get a glass of water, it's nice because we have a 2 year old that likes to push buttons-he can't see or reach it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by radjad Fix to Leak Problem
I have had the same problem with leaking as the other reviewers (TWICE now). I hope Whirlpool is paying attention because this is clearly a problem that is not confined to only a few people and the company really needs to address this issue and provide a fix. Water pools at the bottom of the freezer and freezes and eventually the ice gets so thick that it drains out onto the floor. The first time it was fixed under warranty ("drain clog"), this time it was not under warranty so I was determined to fix it myself. What is happening is that the drain under the drip pan (under the freezer coils) is getting frozen over and clogged with ice. Eventually the entire pan fills with ice and then begins to spill onto the freezer bottom, then eventually onto the kitchen floor. This probably first occurred if the freezer door was left partially open which allowed extra condensation to form inside. If you own this product you know this is VERY easy to do...you really have to throw your weight into the door to close it all the way (which is a another complaint in my opinion). Naturally, the drain is not easily accessible and it is not simple to unclog. So, there are two possible fixes:
1) Defrost the freezer. Clearly the simplest way to get rid of ice. If your freezer was anything like mine, there was a ton of ice accumulation so I'd suggest letting it defrost for at least 24 hours. Trust me, this is the easiest method and will yield the same results as fixing it yourself or even having a repairman come out.
2) I only did it this way because I was still trying to figure out the actual problem, so again I suggest just defrosting. But to access the drip pan, you have to take off the freezer door and the racks and take off the back panel inside the freezer. However, you can't take it all the way off unless you remove the ice maker, but it is a flimsy piece of metal so I was able to just bend it to access the pan and expose the coils. You have to chisel what was an INSANE amount of ice (I wish I could post a picture on here) out of all the piping, the pan, and the drain. I realized I couldn't get full access to the drain so I had to remove the back bottom of the freezer to be able to clean the drain from the bottom. More work than it's worth.
Bottom line: It's an easy fix so DON'T CALL A REPAIRMAN if not under warranty (unless it is another issue). Again, Whirlpool needs to address this, or at least let customers know of this problem. Seems to me it is a design flaw...there is a tiny little slit in the bottom of the drip pan that spills into a 1/4 inch wide drain. I'm no engineer but that seems like an avoidable problem to me (how easy is it for that small of an opening to get frozen over?). And I'm just speculating about the freezer door being left open causing extra condensation building up, maybe it's a bigger problem.
Another irritation is that the temperature control unit is right at the front in the top middle of the fridge and takes up about half of the width of the top shelf. Vertical space on the top shelf is tight anyway, and any taller items (e.g. gallon of milk or a two gallon pitcher) will not fit under that unit, so you have to pull them out from the SIDES, which of course severely limits accessibility. Otherwise, it is an "ok" product. No complaints about performance and it is a sharp looking fridge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by twinmom928 Many repairs needed
We have only had this fridge for 2 years and we've already had numerous problems with it. Like others have said, the freezer leaks and creates inches thick slabs of ice at the bottom that will cause water leaks onto the kitchen floor. When it was happening, we researched it and found many many people complaining about the same thing, whirlpool even sells some part that can "fix" it, IF you know how to attach it. Now our fridge part isn't cold, no matter how high we set it.. It's always been something with it since we got it. VERY disappointing. We wanted a fridge that would last years and years like they used to. We thought Whirlpool was a good brand, that has been around for ages, and it's been a huge disappointment!

Rated 4 out of 5 by SteveM Good refrigator overall, but too loud
I really like this refrigerator, especially the water dispenser on the side of the left wall.
The only not so good things are that it make too much noise and the right side door pops and stays open when you close the left side door. I am always double checking and most of the time the right side door is not closed and sealed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DonnaD63 Everything is easy to see and assessable.
We love this refrigerator! Everything is easy to see and very assessable.
I don't have to search for things like we did with our old side by side. Even the freezer is very user friendly and assessable. I love keeping our milk and drinks in the door. This frees up a lot of space for other things on the shelves.
I also love the filtered water and ice maker. The filtered ice helps to make our drinks taste so much better. Overall, this is a great refrigerator!

Rated 1 out of 5 by SuzyJ1 Would not buy again
I had high hopes for this appliance. Exterior styling was nice and reviews were good. Freezer drawer handle immediately was easy to pull off if you tugged sideways at all. (It cannot be tightened). Later, ice formed over the bottom of the freezer and was fixed under warranty. Now 9 months out I am waiting for Whirlpool to find me a new compressor. The problem was initially misdiagnosed and I've been without a fridge for 10 days. They say they have another 8 days to look for the part before they will consider replacing my unit. Time to get more ice for the coolers! Quality and customer service are lacking!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Robert7 A winner ...
Very pleased with the sleek style. To have a water dispenser feature inside the unit is great...it does not chop up the front outside door of the unit. Enjoying my Whirlpool kitchen.

I bought this fridge about 4 yrs ago now. It worked great the first 2 or 3 yrs of having it. Im now having problems with the freezer working but not the fridge. Just in the last 30 days my husband has had to lay on his back with a hair dryer and defrost the freezer so the fridge will get cold again. NOT GOING TO BUY THIS BRAND AGAIN.

Rated 5 out of 5 by trucker This unit is energy efficient and well designed
My wife and love our new Refrigerator. We very much like the water dispenser inside so the Kids can't play with it. The unit runs so quiet that you don't even know when it runs. There is ample room in the top part to hold every thing we need and it's design lets my wife configure the shelves to fit her needs.
There is sufficient room in the freezer and the ice maker is great. We enjoy the unit and would recommend it to anyone in need of a new refrigerator.

Rated 4 out of 5 by hilltopper76 possible design flaw!
The Whirlpool French door refrigerator seems to be a very good product and has many useful and good features. The only problem is with the freezer door and inner sliding shelf. The problem which we have encountered several times, is if you close the main freezer door without first closing the inner shelf it will over freeze.( excessive frost )Restated the inner shelf must be pushed in first, the close the main freezer door. You will have problems if you use the main door to close the sliding shelf.

Rated 3 out of 5 by dgray Doors don't close properly, freezer drawer pull falls off when opening the freezer compartment.
The doors have no sound mechanism to warn when the fridge or freezer are left ajar...and this happens frequently believe it or not. The closing mechanism on the left side door is not smooth and often stays open. The freezer drawer pull actually pops off of the grommets that hold it on the the face of the drawer. i'm not impressed with this unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tina2309 This product is excellent!
I only have a few dissatisfactions but would not trade it because of them. The overall refridge is excellent and was an excellent value! I wish that the stainless did not scratch so easily and did not get so many finger prints and water streaks from wet hands. Other than that which I am living with, just takes a lot of cleaning. I am thrilled with the refridgerator! the pop dispenser in the door is one of our favorite features and also the bottom long drawer is really nice.

It is an ok model. The handle comes off of the freezer quite often. The long meat/cheese drawer is flimsy and hard to close.

Rated 4 out of 5 by flowerpot This fridge does a good job.
A good product with a few very aggravating features.
1. The full width lower drawers cannot be opened without opening both sides of unit. Why not make them the width of the doors so they can be opened individually?
2. The chilled water feature needs to be a one handed operation rather than requiring both hands. Should be easy if the button to turn the water on was below the spout instead of above.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mommyoftwo Perfect fridge
We love this fridge. Great looking, tons of space, hidden water dispenser. The only thing I'd change is to make the interior water dispenser easier to access. The button is a bit awkward to press whilst filling a glass. I would love a one-handed mechanism.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Monica30 Nice fridge but need more room
We thought this fridge would be more than enough room for us, somehow we manage to Fill it up. I feel as if the inside could be better designed. The freezer is actually quite small too. This fridge works for te two of us but I would definitely get a bigger one if we had a couple kids. Also, I noticed the fridge is getting small rust specs on it.

This fridge is perfect for family. I always have plenty of room for groceries, leftovers, etc... It isn't fully of fancy innovations, but doesn't need to be. I also love having the freezer on the bottom. You can see everything and can get to it quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BruceD Outstanding, Awesome, Fantastic Frig!!!!!
Our old refrigerator died on the Saturday night before Labor Day 2013. Refrigerators are not over rated. We lived out of two coolers and the neighbors garage frig until Tuesday. We went to the dealer and purchased the Whirlpool 25 cubic ft. refrigerator. We never had a ice maker or water dispenser until now and we love it. The French doors make everything inside very accessible. The storage space in the doors are also an added bonus. We love the refrigerator and would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a great frig. There are lesser priced refrigerators out there but this one is well worth the price, I'm a firm believer in that you get what you pay for. Great job Whirlpool!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shadetree Minor challenges; otherwise a very good product during it's first two months
I had high expectations and thus far were met. I have experienced three minor recurring challenges. If the left door is closed after the right door, intermittently it will partly open the right door. I expect that that problem to remediate itself as the seals loosen up. The second minor problem is that the if the ice tray is full and the freezer door is opened to quickly, some ice cubes will fall out. Finally, the durability of the plastic drawers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Shrimp Love my 3 door refrigerator Seems so wide and easy to store my foods.I bought because of reputation
Love my frige but wish it had a few features found on the Samsung. I wish the ice was more assesible as you need to pull top shelf all the way out to retrieve ice. Also wish it had a shelf or 2 that pulled out or folded down to give more room for larger items when needed. I bought as I have always had Whirlpool or Kenmore for my 53 years of marriage and countless homes. Many years we had 2 homes as we do now and we always replaced with whirlpool. they hold up far longer than many others. I currently have 2 whirlpool refrigerators in my current homeand 1 in my summer home. I have noticed that this unit is a bit noiser than my smaller refrigerator. Over all I guess I am somewhat satisfied with my new product. I did take about and hour of hemming and hawing over the Samsung it was less $$$ but Whirlpools reputation won me over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Misscheriebee Very spacious
Very spacious, well built refrigerator. We chose to have the filtered water inside as we have small children that would fill and dump cups from an outer dispenser. The ice maker is rather loud when it refills and we don't drink soda so the can dispenser isn't used for it's original purpose. I have neen incredibly pleased with this purchase all things considered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by moe60 Love the openness and versatility of the shelves.
The door spaces are a bit cramped and for some reason the crisper drawers don't always stay tightly closed but I love the openeness and ease of finding what I want in my fridge. I would recommend this product and have already, my sister bought one too! Ice maker is a bit noisy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Don53 Excellent performance, but...
Excellent performance, but we have a few things that need to be redesigned. The lower pantry drawer has a movable devider that does not secure to the drawer properly. I have tried dozens of times to position it in place and lock down the rotating end to no avail. All the drawers do not seal properly because, even though the refrigerator is perfectly level, they keep falling forward on their tracks instead of in the fully closed position, therefore the humidity controls on veggie drawer, fruit drawer, etc. are completely useless.
