Useful life of about 3 years I had this unit for about 2.5 years before I began to have problems so let me start with the good: This unit did not hold much but it was a work horse, it washed my clothes nicely and the sensing dry cycle worked nicely. It did take quite a while to finish the dry cycle, but I assume that goes with the territory with electric dryers. Now on to the bad: One day during a normal wash cycle I heard this awful noise and the washer began to bang so I ran over and turns out the whole wash tub broke free from the base. I contacted Whirlpool and the referred me to one of their "Authorized Whirlpool Technicians". They came and $400 later they "fixed" the problem and I was assured that Whirlpool had upgraded the parts and that this "will never happen again". The washer was never the same, very loud. 9 months later...same problem. I refuse to pay another $400 to fix what seems to be a recurring issue. If you google LTE5243DQ6 you will find dozens of websites where people talk about the same problem with the wash tub breaking loose. How is this product still on the market? I am not sure yet if this problem extends to all the Whirlpool combo lines, but I would avoid this particular model at all costs. December 13, 2011
The unit is very well built and easy one cable plug in installation (Cable no include). Easy to operate and select wash and drying options. Very well built construction and very quite. Only loud sound that is a little disturbing is the dryer's finish drying buzzer. I recommend this model unite to all my family and friends. I will also buy another alike this unit if the need arises. I did get the extended service policy which is very reasonable price for ll the coverage included. February 15, 2013
This is a Great Combo Unit with great design and features This is the second one of these I have owned.. my first one was just after I was married and my wife and live in a small one room apartment. This one I purchased because I'm adding on to my house for my mom to live in.. and wanted her to have her own washer and dryer.. Great value April 8, 2013
Its Great. I like this washer dryer combination because it is small and I was able to put it in my closet in the bathroom. It washes the perfect amount of clothes for me, and I was surprised how many garments I was able to put into the washer. I had never set the dryer on automatic with my previous dryer because the clothes never were completely dry. With this dryer every time I use the automatic setting my clothes are dry, and it doesn't seem to take that long. Not having to run up and down the stairs is what I love most about it. May 6, 2013
This is a great product and fit the space I needed exactly! I was in need of trying to replace a 25 + yr old unit for a rental. The space was tight that I was working with and I couldn't enlarge it. Also, my tenant is blind so I was trying to find a unit that the knobs were in a similar location on the unit so he wasn't going to have to re-learn how to use the unit. Too Noisy We had a previous version of this washer dryer and it was great and lasted for 16 years. The heating elements in the dryer stopped working and rather than replace it we bought an entirely new unit. Mistake! The new unit is so noisy on the wash cycle that I think something is wrong with it - from the first usage. I should probably exchange it - but there is no guarantee a new one would be less noisy. This product meets my laundry needs. I am very satisfied with my combination washer/electric dryer. It makes my laundry work much easier. It cleans and dries my clothes very well. I am pleased with this product despite the fact that I had to have service for it shortly after I purchased it last Spring. It really is a good investment. October 30, 2011
Only laundry that fits into my small space - couldn't ask for more of this pair! Our condo was built with very limited space for laundry facilities, and I replaced the original set after 20+ years of excellent service.
