Extras such as exterior water dispensers, see-through bins, and special temperature-controlled compartments will enhance the performance of your refrigerator and make food storage and accessibility easier.
Door-mounted ice and water dispensers are generally easy to find on side-by-side models, but not as common on other freestanding models. Most models provide water filtration and dispense ice and water through the door. Look for models with the filter located in the base grille, where it is easy to access and change. Dispensers also often feature a night light, a filter change indicator and control lockout.
Some Whirlpool brand refrigerators now offer increased dispensing speed, filling any size container twice as fast as their previous dispensers. These models can also accurately measure the amount of water dispensed – in ounces, cups or liters. A rotating faucet allows you to fill everything from a water glass to a stock pot. A slide-out tray also makes hands-free dispensing possible.
Clear shelves and door bins help you see what you have, no matter where it is in the refrigerator, and provide better access to items stored in the back. Look for this feature if you generally store a lot of food at one time and plan to purchase a large capacity model.
