We had a portable washer that had to be replaced, and we looked to Home Depot's vast selection because of their removal and installation services, as well as pricing.
Ideally we'd have liked to replace our dryer as well, but finances dictated we could only replace the washer. Fortunately it looks like the matching dryer will also be around for a while.
The best way I can describe this washer is to go from driving an old car that barely passes smog check to a brand new Honda.
Our clothes are cleaner, we have more load size choices and water temperature choices, which is really great considering we have a lot of toddler clothes to wash.
If we had to pick one feature above everything else, I think it would be the load size. I guess we never noticed how small our old washer was until we got this one. We end up splitting loads to dry in the much smaller dryer but it's definitely worth it.
We're now a Whirlpool family and can't see a reason for that to change any time soon. Great price. Great product. Great brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LorenaMorena Great value and features for the price!
I was looking for a very basic, cheap, and durable washer. I think I got more than I paid for! It does have all the basic features, but unlike other washers for a similar price, it has the fabric softener and bleach compartments (which I needed), and it also has a cool technology that balances the basket so that the washer doesn't bang around. I think it makes the loads take longer, but it keeps it quieter, and they say it's safe to use on upper floors. It has special settings for if you use fabric softener, including the option for an extra rinse. So far, so good, Whirlpool! Great value for the money and no complaints yet. Hopefully it will last a while (I do wonder how long it will take before the balancing mechanism breaks, and if that will keep the washer from operating). The only thing I don't love is that when the load starts spinning, the door locks. This would be great if you have a house with kids, but it's annoying if you forget something that you want to throw in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by brs10103 It's a washer..it will make some sounds.
I purchased this style of washer because I wanted to have control of the amount of water used (not the washer). Having an agitator in the tub to me ensures that all of the clothes being washed get pulled into the soapy water. The 700RPM spin really extracts most of the water. The washer does make sounds when operating but nothing excessive.
The amount of time to do wash I guess is longer than older models (my daughter asked if there is a way to speed the cycle), but again I don't feel it is excessive. Depending on preference you can spray the laundry with water during the rinse cycle finishing with a high spin by using the regular cycle or fill the tub with water during the rinse cycle finishing with a slower spin by using the casual cycle. It seems important to loosely load the clothes around the agitator (don't push them down tightly) to avoid an out of balance condition. I am very pleased with my decision to purchase this washer.

We received our new washer from Lowe's and had great delivery service! It was delivered without a users manual, but found one online (and saved it) to help with the transition. The 'new' way of loadiing clothes - dump in piles- has been difficult and the manual lacked the prompts on what constitued a load. The 'undertow' process the washer employs made washing pillows a clump. Perhpas pillows should be using the Casual load as opposed to the heavy or regular cycle. I'll figure it out, but load size recommendations would be very helpful. It is SOOOO quiet that we think it is broken and not funcitoning. The lock feature is great for folks with small children. Ours does not delay as the instrucitions suggest - it locks and you have to unlock it to add clothes, but ............. that is an easy adjustment. All in All it does a good job cleaning, and is easy to use even if the instrucitons are a bit lacking. Thanks for the opportunity to make things better!!!

Bought a set wasn't sure I would like them because I am very picky and it was a little bit of a learning curve for the first 2 loads but after that it has been a delight and a breeze. The only thing was the locked lid when you forget something the lid is locked but it was an easy fix just push the button wate 3 seconds and it stops and unlocks add what you need to close the lid push the button and you are golden. The 1st time I did that wrong and the machine emptyed and I had to start over again and I did that twice before figureing it out the correct way but now all is well and it is great. Gets clothes good and clean it may take a little longer than a traditional machine but it gets the job done and I love the large capacity Dryer with the vent on top and a light in side its great you just can't beat it. The washer gives you the amount of water as a traditional machine and that was very important to me. This set was my first Whirlpool and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants all the pros of high efficency with none of the cons.

I've only had this washer over a month. I do about 5-6 loads a week. So far my laundry seems clean and the washer fills very quickly compared to my last washer a Maytag I bought new 7 years ago and that broke so often from it's 2nd year that they finally gave me my extended warranty money back to replace the un-fixable washer. I have one complaint about the new washer, the lock down mechanism on the lid. I was doing a load of wash the first week it arrived and our power went out and I could not open my washer to retrieve my soaking wet clothes. Fortunately the power was restored within 6 hours but sometimes that could be days to over a week. I also cannot add more clothes or see how full the water level appears. Also, it sometimes cancels itself and the load just stops and I have no idea why and have to restart the washer. I would not buy this washer again, I would look for a more basic model of the same brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TWGORED Overall I am pleased with my new washer.
I bought a Whirlpool because the last one I had lasted 12 years without any problems and my dryer (also 12 years) is still working good.
I really like the way you set your settings and then just click the start button. You don't have to turn a know to start and pull out or push in. I think that timing mechanism is what wore out on my last whirlpool. Now I don't have to worry about that. I also like the way you have cold and cool water temps. AND how the machine will adjust the hot and cold water being added to the tub to make sure the temp is correct.
I don't like the locked lid. I used to add my detergent and then add some water so that it would mix will and then my clothes. Now I have to put the clothes on the detergent and then close the lid. Additionally, if you missed a sock, you have to hit stop, wait for the lid to unlock, add the sock, and hit start again. Can be a bit of a pain.
Overall I am please with my new washer

I am sorry to say that I am very disappointed with the machine. It does get clothes clean but so do all of them. It is not consumer friendly. I hate the locking feature. I am 70 years old & do not need a machine to lock me out so I don't get my hands caught in it. Shutting the stupid thing down often takes time that I consider wasted. When I want to spin the excess water out of a few things that I washed by hand it doesn't like it. It makes the stupidest sounds thruout the cycles. When I want warm water I am lucky if it is lukewarm. If I want hot water, well just forget it. I guess the machine thinks I might burn myself. Or maybe your designers don't want me to use hot water. Who knows? It shuts off the hot side over & over & just puts out cold. There is no easy way to clean the fabric softener container. If I could have sent it back I would have. I already returned the first one they sent me & purchased one more expensive. But you can't return them just because you don't like it. I would never buy another machine again from your company. I would never recommend this washer to my friends.
