Many nice features for the price There are a lot of nice features on this model, e.g. auto soil sensor, 5 wash cycles including overnight and eco-wash cycles, direct feed wash system, large capacity, and others. It has everything I need in a dishwasher. The only thing I'm not sure about is the filter system it has instead of a food disposer; I hope I don't have to clean it out more than every couple of months, not that it looks difficult, I'm just lazy. I installed it myself and that was fairly easy; although I don't like the hose-type inlet water fitting on the machine which made it difficult to attach the water hose without having it leak. The user instructions that came with it don't seem to be the right ones as they don't cover all of the cycles, etc. and is different than the one that you can download on line. Not a big deal but it's odd. It seems to clean very well and is quiet; you can hardly hear the pump running. It's appears to be a good value for the price and I like it very well so far! May 28, 2012
Glad they got rid of the food chopper We've had our dishwasher for over 6 months now and are happy with the performance. This is the 3rd or 4th in a series of Whirlpool dishwashers we've owned, and I think one major improvement is that this no longer has the food chopper (i.e. garbage disposal) in the bottom, but instead has a cage that catches the larger food chunks, which you simply empty after every few uses. The food chopper invariably broke and led to the demise of at least 1 or 2 of our previous dishwashers. I'm not crazy about the design of the silverware basket. The basket is divided into 6 sections. There is a handle that angles out over the middle 2 sections. This combined with the large holes in the dividers between the sections, tends to send our silverware in at an angle and they get wedged in, especially when our children load the dishwasher. The cycles are rather long up to 3-1/2 hours for normal cycle, but we usually run it overnight, so the "Overnight" cycle (even LONGER) works great for us. If we run it during the day, a use the "1-hour" cycle, which works great. June 5, 2013
Very good product This is a very good product. Yes it does take a little longer to do a load, but with its gear system it is suppose to be like that. This machine is very low in noise, cleans everything great, uses hardly any power and with the silver ware holder in the door you don't loose that extra space in your bottom rack. I can pretty much put two full sets of plates in the bottom rack before it is full. The way its designed everything always comes out clean even if you don't get it cleaned off all the way. Its nice to have the catch basket in the bottom especial if you don't get it fully clean. It keeps the food from getting into the motor and plugging it up. Highly recommend this dishwasher to anyone. My mom has a very expensive one and she even likes mine better. April 19, 2013
Great dishwasher for the money We perviously had a 8 year old Whirlpool dishwasher and it quit running. WE had a tech com out and he discovered that the motor was bad. It was going to cost us just shy of $300 to repair so we decided to get a new one. After looking at several, we came back to the Whirlpool because the features for the money was the best we could find - in a name brand. We got it at Best Buy where they price matched other stores, and the only charged $12.00 delivery which INCLUDED installation. We have had it for about one month now and the dishes come out spotless and the washer is extremely quite. We can actually watch TV while it is running and not notice it. The only problem for us is the silverware holder. The holes are too small for our forks and table spoons. The rest of the slier ware fits fine. April 29, 2013
Your silverware basket is bizarre This purchase was a major dissapointment. If Whirlpool paid someone to design the silverware basket, You all need to recoup their payment. The baskets design is beyond awkward. Why does it have the grids, that are alsomst impossible to use. My previous dishwasher was also a Whirlpool, too bad I didn't keep the basket from that one. Anyway, I am not an engineer, having majored in history in college, but sure could have come up with a more user friendly design. Next time I'll look for another brand. I bought a Whirlpool dishwasher again because I really loved the performace of my last one. I had my prior dishwasher for many years and really liked the performance, The one problem was that the decals on the front peeled off within the first year, I could of probably had that replaced, just never did. Otherwise, wonderful. The new one is incredibly quiet, easy, straight forward design. I like the silverware holder in the door. Which is another reason I choose Whirlpool. But..not as good as my other. Not as easy to open up to unload. The water does well up on the glasses on the top rack, worse than the older model. But honestly, I still love it, and would recommend it. It is a perfect mid-range priced dishwasher for people who do not want all the useless options and buttons. My husband could always work on it if needed and Whirlpool has an exceptionally helpful website for parts and service. April 23, 2013
The silverware basket and placement of it are awful. On the whole this dishwasher is decent, but the inside arms are plastic, and seem to be a cheap plastic. I do like how quiet it is. It sticks out more than my previous dishwasher, but that may be due to poor installation. I complained about it, but they said that was the best they could do. I think they didn't want to bother any more. but, the main issue I have with this dishwasher is the silverware basket and it's placement. One, it doesn't hold much and two, the silverware doesn't get clean. I have to check every one before I put it away and usually I have to rewash a third of them. I tried moving the basket into the main part of the dishwasher, ( it is designed to fit on the door)., but that didn't help and it takes away from any room for other dishes. I have also tried different ways of placing the silverware in the basket and I do not overload it. The inside of the dishwasher itself seems small and the rack design is not convenient for varying sizes of dishes. I have resorted to only using it occasionally because I get so irritated when I do use it February 15, 2013
Good for the price, but clumsy utensil tray. We needed to replace a broken stainless steel dishwasher, but didn't want to spend too much on the replacement. That's where the Whirlpool WDF510PAYS came in. Install was easy and the first washes have been very good. We still get some water left over once we open the door, but still, it's nothing to worry about. What is poor is the utensil tray. It is attached to the door which makes loading harder than it should be. For instance, you can't load larger spoons or the bottom tray might not be able to pull out. Also, the utensil tray is very small which means either cramming your utensils into one load and hoping they come out clean or waiting to load them the next time. Still, this is a good performer and quieter than our last more expensive dishwasher. For the price, you bet I would recommend it. April 18, 2013
