Rated 2 out of 5 by from looks great but not that easy to use We would have never known until actually using this fridge, but it's not user friendly when it comes to the freezer part. Compared to our old fridge which was a side by side, we had more room, better storage space and the food was easier to get in and out then with the freezer on the bottom. Its hard to fit boxes of anything inside and the ice holder takes up what would be a lot of usable space. Its pretty to look at but not easy to store or use for freezer stuff. The water spout is nice to have inside the fridge, thou it stinks to have to always open the door to get a glass of water, it's nice because we have a 2 year old that likes to push buttons-he can't see or reach it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not buy again I had high hopes for this appliance. Exterior styling was nice and reviews were good. Freezer drawer handle immediately was easy to pull off if you tugged sideways at all. (It cannot be tightened). Later, ice formed over the bottom of the freezer and was fixed under warranty. Now 9 months out I am waiting for Whirlpool to find me a new compressor. The problem was initially misdiagnosed and I've been without a fridge for 10 days. They say they have another 8 days to look for the part before they will consider replacing my unit. Time to get more ice for the coolers! Quality and customer service are lacking!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Icemaker Issues/Layout Issues The layout is not maximized and leaves you with limited storage areas. The icemaker doesn't work after one year and according to online boards and chat rooms, there are sensor issues with most of them causing costly repairs and replacements. A recall should be done but hasn't. Now to spend $100 plus labor to get it fixed. Also, it doesn't crush ice. A feature my husband was expecting and we took for granted would be there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaky A great fridge with one small problem. It won't stop leaking water all over my wood floors. It should come with a free mop. Otherwise I love it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulty Defroster Leaked Water on Hardwood Floors We were totally satisfied with this purchase until after 8 months of use when we discovered a large puddle of water underneath the refrigerator. This water leak caused permanent damage to our hardwood floors. We discovered a large frozen mass of ice at the bottom of the freezer section which was melting and spilling out onto the floor. Suspecting an ice maker leak, we shut off the water to the automatic ice maker and immediately contacted Whirlpool service who promptly scheduled service for the next day. The service technician who visited us found that there was nothing wrong with the ice maker. The problem, he discovered, was caused by a clog in the the automatic defrosting system that caused water to pool into the freezer compartment instead of draining into an evaporator pan underneath the refrigerator. He recommended we remove all of the food from the refrigerator and freezer and leave the refrigerator off for two days to allow the frozen clog to thaw and the problem would clear itself. The source of the clog, he said was unknown, probably a food particle or ice fragment. When I asked if there was any regular maintenance I could do to prevent this from happening again, he said there were no user accessible places to maintain the defrost drain line. He recommended that the refrigerator be installed slightly tilted backward to allow for better drainage to the evaporator pan. This is accomplished by extending the adjustable rubber feet located in the front of the unit, next to the roller feet - The problem with this advice, is that is exactly how the refrigerator was installed and was operating when the defroster system failed. I see a potential design flaw here in the defroster drainage system. This is really too bad. What would otherwise be an outstanding 5-star product apparently has a hidden flaw that may not surface until after many months of use. The recommended corrective action, in my mind is unsatisfactory since I do not want to have to shut down my refrigerator for 2 days at a time every 8 months to clear ice clogs. Furthermore, I do not look forward to potential future puddles causing further damage to my hardwood flooring. The technician's recommendations, while helpful for the short term, did not address the root cause of failure of the defrosting system. Based upon this experience, I would have to give this product 1 star and I would caution potential buyers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Large capacity storage in a small size with efficient operation Our Kenmore model# GX5FHTXVQ07 refrigerator is an excellent size with large capacity storage that allowed it to fit in our kitchen without modifying cabinets or obstructing ease of use (doors and freezer opens fully). The French door upper and Freezer bottom allows for more freezer storage while providing a large (well designed) door and main compartment storage area for bottled water, milk and other common refrigerated items. The operation is quite and the power consumption is much reduced from our old refrigerator. I would recommend Kenmore Refrigerators and other appliances to anyone in the market for a new refrigerator or looking to reduce operational costs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I would not consider this refrigerator again Beautiful design but there are three things wrong with it. 1) The doors do not close tightly all the time. You have to make sure you push them closed. Many times we have come back and found the door slightly ajar and frost building up inside. It does not have a very good sealing system and many other refrigerators we checked out since we bought this one we've found the doors pull themselves shut without effort. This one does not. 2) The freezer drawer does not seal tightly all the time either. Ice builds up on the bottom near the seals and then it becomes hard to close it unless you get on your hands and knees or lay down flat on the floor to reach underneath and clean off the ice build up. This is a pain and should not be necessary. 3) The front surface is not easily kept clean. Spotting easily builds up and you have to rub and rub to clean the metal surface. You need special cleaning cloths or steel spray to keep it looking good but it never looks the same as when you first bought it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I rarely write reviews but just had to on this.... I'm an extremely diligent researcher and typically make the correct purchase. I based ALOT of my decision on this purchase from consumer reports (and I no longer subscribe because I joined specifically to buy this fridge) What a mistake. I've owned or used a fridge/freezer my entire life and never had a problem in the past with any of those products that I can recall. I bought this in Oct 2011 for a kitchen renovation. To start, the water filter never produced water pressure at an acceptable level. When I called Whirlpool about it, they said I needed a new filter!!! I just bought a new fridge, why would I have to buy a new filter right away? It should last a few months, no? Now for the real issues. I've already had a repairman come out twice!! This is a brand new product! The first issue was that the entire freezer crystallized and made the door hard to close because the tracks were frozen. There was a clog. A clog? What could possibly have clogged already?? Anyway, problem fixed under warranty. Although nobody covers my lost time to have this repaired.... And now for major issue number 2. About 2 weeks ago, there was a leak on my floor. It seems that the freezer is building up ice under the tray and once the ice "breaks up" a bit it leaks. Is Whirlpool going to cover installing new floors? This is supposed to be repaired later today and I was told there is a leak. A brand new fridge/freezer rated high by CR, less than a year old and I had a leak and a clog already??? Lord knows what the future will hold huh? Needless to say, I bought another year of warranty from Whirlpool because who wouldn't. I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool product again. With so much choice and competition how dare they make such a piece of junk and how on earth is it rated so high with CR? What a joke....DO NOT BUY THIS. I would have to assume this is Whirlpool quality across the board so I would recommend you never buy a Whirlpool product ever. Just my opinion.
