When we bought this product, after reading some reviews online, I said I would make a point to write one after a few weeks of getting it home.
What helped more in my search is that we read the Consumer Reports Guide for 2011 and it was the TOP RATED bottom freezer refrigerator (they don't distinguish between that and french door). This guide is not just a bunch of angry people ranting.
Overall, this refrigerator is great. It is not noisy, we have not had any issues with water leakage (if you have, you might want to check your water hook-up and not assume it is the fridge), and there is ample freezer space.
We chose the option without the water dispenser because we like the filtration system we already have for drinking water, and also because the more complex something is, the more that can go wrong with it.
The only one complaint I would have is that there does not seem to be enough room for large liquid containers (like wine bottles). The can caddy takes up quite a bit of space for someone who does not drink soda.

When we built our home 11 years ago I wanted only the best new appliances for my new kitchen. I chose a beautiful stainless steel side by side which came to be the worse choice I have ever made. When we started having trouble with it recently and decided it needed to be replaced- I started my research for one that not only looked nice but for performance value. With that research in hand, we decided on the Whirlpol French Door with the bottom freezer. Could not be happier with its performance and the ease of getting and finding items inside the fridge is wonderful. So much more room than my side by side and the drawer features are great. There is a place for everything! Was not sure how the freezer on the bottom was going to work but again---no problem--and love the location of the ice bucket. I HIGHLY recommend this fridge and have to several friends. My daughter in law has this same fridge and loves hers just as much! You could not purchase a more beautiful and practical fridge- in my opinion. Absolutely love it!

I shopped around for quite a while looking at all different french door refrigerators. This was the best in terms of price and design. It is not fussy or overdone, it just has sleek lines that add to the ambiance of the kitchen rather than overwhelm it. I intentionally did not want the water/ice option on the door because I feel I don't like the look. This fit the bill as well as having quite a bit of room on the inside. The freezer size is fine for us. We keep an upright freezer in the garage so the only food in the fridge freezer are frozen items used on a daily basis. This was a very good investment.

Great features, lots of room for large or odd size items, plenty of of drawer space for cheeses and fresh produce and long low drawer at bottom is perfect for family size packs of fresh meats or chicken. Chest freezer is very efficient and unit is very quiet. Only issue, if over or incorrectly loaded, freezer door may not shut completely, but the auto defroster took care of resultant ice crystalization in the freezer within 24 hours. I would not trade this refrigerator, it is so convenient and user friendly!

We were shopping for a kitchen full of appliances, and used Consumer Reports as our guide. This 'fridge was well rated by them.
The Bad: Upon arrival first the blue tape they used inside of it was very difficult to remove, and there was a lot of it. We had a malfunction with the door that controls the cold air coming up from the freezer to the fridge, and lost a good deal of food because of it (Couldn't get cold, food spoiled). A tech came out that fixed it, and then tried to pitch us the long term warranty on it. Found it in poor taste. Upper doors and freezer gliding mechanism feels a bit cheap.
The Good: Great flexible layout, now that it's fixed everything stays very cold, and it's pretty quiet. It's also truly a looker, with a simple sophisticated design. It's also an outstanding value, we paid =/- $1100 at Home Depot. To get a double french door freezer on bottom 'fridge for that, well it's tough to beat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ann79 Nice idea if it didn't leak and freeze on the inside of fridge at top
Bought this along with matching range and microwave. The fridge is a great design with super storage capacity, however the internal ice maker is causing excessive leaking and freezing on the inside of the fridge, making the top shelf unusable because the items stored there get wet.
We had a certified repairman come out with the original fridge to fix it. He said this was a design flaw and installed Whirlpool's fix-heating wires and a new rear seal. Whatever he did made the problem worse and we had more leaking than before. The company replaced the fridge with a newer model which was supposed to fix the problem.
Everything was fine for 6 weeks until the freezing began to occur at the rear wall on the new replacement, and water is dripping from the seam midway on the left ceiling of the interior. We will have to have the repairman come out again. This is junk for the price.
Additionally, one of the glass shelves seems to tip to the right and may be warped, or the rear support may be bad. The interior quality of the fridge is adequate, but borderline cheap.
Very disappointed with the quality for the price of this model-there are better products on the market than this fridge. Take the time to look around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by KOES Overall we are pleased with this product.
The design of this model is what prompted our purchase. We have good, cold well water so I appreciated being able to have the ice maker without giving up space for a water dispenser. I particularly enjoy the ability to customize the shelving in the refrigerator including the door shelves. The only thing I am not pleased with is the fragility of the wide, shallow drawer designed for platters. It also doesn't slide out smoothly. If I had small children I imagine that would be the drawer I would want to use for their snacks except I don't think it would stand up to that kind of use. For the price we paid I would expect all of the drawers to be of equal quality. The rest of the drawers are much stronger and slide out easily. This is the only frustration that keeps me from giving this refrigerator an excellent review in all categories.

GX5FHDXVY French door fridge just installed today 12-20-2011 so can't speak about durability. Looks good in my kitchen but can't say much about the quality of the plastic bins inside it. They are very cheap styrene plastic and edgings are poorly fitted. When opening, I'm afraid the fronts will come off in my hand when bins are loaded. I wanted the Satina finish instead of true stainless steel but was told by Lowes that that finish wasn't available. Now I see on this site that the Satina finish is available on this model, so I'm stuck with the constant cleaning that goes with stainless. Since fridge has been plugged in & begun cooling, there is a clunking & popping sound periodically that is coming from the fridge compartment. Hope this stops when it reaches max cool. It's un-nerving. Will give an update after a few months. Haven't hooked up the ice maker yet. So that's yet to be reviewed.
